Dublin, 21 November 2022 – Irish taxi technology startup iCabbi surpasses one billion rides on its dispatch platform.

iCabbi was established on the Howth peninsula in 2009 by CEO & Founder Gavan Walsh after the idea to be able to book a taxi on his smartphone struck him while lost on a holiday in Portugal. He set about disrupting the traditional taxi industry with the first fully cloud-based dispatch solution and a SAAS model.

13 years later iCabbi has expanded into the largest dispatch technology provider in the world, powering approximately 100,000 taxis every day in Ireland, the UK, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Finland. The reliability of the system is unrivaled, boasting 99.999% uptime, which has enabled iCabbi to hit volumes unseen by its competitors.

The global HQ continues to be located less than a mile from where Gavan grew up. “We share a deep appreciation of our local roots in common with all of our customers. Taxi is an inherently local business, but taxi companies need world-class technology to meet passenger expectations and continue owning the local market they’ve serviced for so long,” said Gavin Walsh. “That’s what iCabbi gives our customers, tools to compete, and we’re constantly striving to find ways to make taxi companies better and better”, “For us then, we get to run a truly global business from our doorstep. It’s the best of both worlds.”

While taxi bookings took a major hit globally during Covid, recovery is now well and truly back on track. On average, bookings for individual firms are at 90% of pre-Covid levels. The collective evidence of this is iCabbi crossing a billion bookings.

“The momentum is back. Fleets are leaving Covid behind and looking to expand by pursuing new markets and moving away from traditional taxi companies” said CEO & Founder Gavan Walsh. “We’re lucky to work with a customer base that is very entrepreneurial and resilient. Our success is intrinsically linked with the success of our customers, so the billion bookings milestone is very much a shared win. It’s a combination of the hard work of our customers servicing their cities and towns day after day with quality taxi and private hire services, and the efforts of the iCabbi team who are driving product and business innovation to allow taxi companies to automate, optimize and grow their businesses.”

The future is bright for iCabbi. New product releases are imminent. A recruitment drive is underway to significantly expand the R&D team. Expansion into new European territories will take place in the coming months, starting with the Netherlands and Italy.

It’s no wonder the iCabbi team is taking some time out to celebrate hitting one billion bookings. “Every taxi booking tells a story, and the combination of all of these rides into this billion milestone is really an epic tale of hard work, determination, and creativity. It’s been fun and grueling in equal measures and it’s all worth it to be able to mark this achievement today in Sutton” said Gavan Walsh. “I’m very proud of how far we’ve come, and I’m excited to take it even further. We’ve got big plans for 2023 and beyond”.
