Niall O’Callaghan
Chief Technology Officer
Back in 2009, with just over ten years experience in designing and developing cloud based systems, Gavan approached me with an idea for ordering a taxi with his new iPhone.
I set about designing and developing a taxi dispatch system. No other systems were cloud based at that time, and I think one of my greatest achievements was coming up with a cost effective, highly resilient architecture which supported our low cost business model and provided taxi companies with the reassurance that moving from on premise to the cloud was the correct decision for them. This system has completed over 1 billion bookings with over 99.999% uptime. These are not easy numbers to achieve and I’m very proud of the system and everyone on the R&D team who helped to get us here.
With the architecture in place, the next challenge was understanding the needs of taxi companies and providing them with a solution that surpassed our competitors. Many months were spent in back rooms in taxi companies all over the world, working closely with some really exceptional customers who had deep knowledge of the industry and were happy to share it with us. I’m extremely proud of what we achieved with such a small team.
As CTO, my focus is now on the technical vision and strategy of iCabbi. Much of my time is spent on solution design and ensuring the R&D teams are empowered and motivated to deliver on the ongoing and changing requirements of the mobility industry.Â
